With this one I will go through one commonly played tune in each session. We will look at form, key scheme, etc. and at the harmony. We will discuss possible and common variations, alterations, and substitutions.
We will consider which scale sound (or which chord extensions) might be played in each chord or section of the tune and what effect each possibility has on potential improvisation directions and the impact on the sound and feeling created by each choice. We will look at the melodies to some of the tunes and analyze note and rhythm choices in the melody and how melody and harmony intersect.
