Description:
The course will survey the use and interaction of Zoom, Audacity, Garage Band, Finale, and more. At the end of the course, we will gain a working knowledge in the basics of each module, such as best presentations or meeting practices, recording aspects, and sharing possibilities. Additionally, we will examine how to use the whiteboard and tools, such as pens and highlighter markers. Students will be exposed to the surveys of recording applications, such as Audacity, Garage Band, and Finale. The course will examine several best practices of the aforementioned skills utilizing both computer and smart phones. Moreover, we will examine content and file deliveries using Dropbox, AirDrop, or You Tube postings.

Course Requirements:

  • Adequate Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Internet Access (Computer and Smart Phone)
  • Participate in Class Discussions
  • Successful Degree of Class Attendance

Methodology:

  • The class will meet weekly for eight (8) weeks
  • Class Meetings will be between 60 and 90 minutes in length
  • All classes will be live and the meetings will be recorded
  • Documents will be posted or share with students
  • Classes will meet at 3:00 P.M. EST

Rationale: General Goals:

  • To gain a broad overview of using specific areas of music technology
  • To examine remote possibilities of specific areas of music technology
  • To serve as a DYI for creative possibilities
  • To provide the basic rudiments of music technology programs
  • To gain a basic proficiency in utilizing specific aspects of music technology
  • To gain an appreciation for the power and convenience of music technology

Schedule of Topics:

Week One: February 15th 2021, 3:00 P.M. EST
Introduction to Zoom, recording and sharing in Zoom. Introduction to Audacity, including the basic recording and editing tools, including saving sessions. Zoom and Audacity are free downloads

Week Two: February 22nd 2021, 3:00 P.M. EST
Continuing Zoom, document presentation and editing, continuing Audacity, recording, editing, exporting and sharing in Zoom. Assigning Module One

Week Three: March 1st 2021, 3:00 P.M. EST
Introduction to Finale, basic notation tools, creating scores, using midi, saving as a PDF, and exporting files, and use in Zoom. Introduction to Garage Band, getting started, recording midi and software instruments, recording audio. Garage Band is a free Download. Module One Due. Assigning Module Two

Week Four: March 8th 2021, 3:00 P.M. EST
Continuing Zoom, including backgrounds, continuing Finale, notation and score development, continuation of Garage Band, building song arrangements, mixing and effects, and exporting. Introduction to DropBox Delivery Systems, uploading and downloading. Module Two Due. Assigning Module Three

Week Five: March 15th 2021, 3:00 P.M. EST
Continuing Zoom, including backgrounds, continuing Finale, notation and score development, continuation of Garage Band, building song arrangements, mixing and effects, and exporting. Introduction to DropBox Delivery Systems, uploading and downloading, continuing DropBox. Module Three Due. Assigning Module Four

Week Six: March 22nd 2021, 3:00 P.M. EST
Continuing Zoom, including backgrounds, continuing Finale, notation and score development, using Garage Band for iPhone, smart instruments, individual notes, adding new tracks, recording vocals, effects, project and instrument view, and mixing. Introduction to AirDrop Delivery Systems. AirDrop is a free download. Module Four Due. Assigning Module Five

Week Seven: March 29th 2021, 3:00 P.M. EST
Continuing Zoom, including backgrounds, continuing Finale, notation and score development, using Garage Band for iPhone, smart instruments, individual notes, adding new tracks, recording vocals, effects, project and instrument view, and mixing, continuing AirDrop Delivery Systems. Module Five Due

Week Eight: April 5th 2021, 3:00 P.M. EST
Review of all topics. Introduction of YouTube as a Delivery System
